Biography:
Thom grew up west central Saskatchewan before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a Plant Science Major at the University of Saskatchewan in 1976. Over the years, Thom spent three years in Agricultural Equipment sales, seven years as a Westco representative and Agronomic Crop Enhancement Specialist. During this time, he help develop technologies to enable farmers seed and use Anhydrous Ammonia at the same time.
Thom held positions of Territory Manager, Provincial Manager, Manager of New Product Development and Account Manager for a large, multi-national chemical company. In these positions, he was involved with the initial development of Clearfield Crops.
Thom worked as an Extension Agrologist for the Saskatchewan government and managed his own crop consulting company – Production Ag. Inc. For the past four years Thom has worked on Variable Rate Fertilizer Applications. He has spent the majority of the last 25 years working directly with farmers, helping them develop and adopt the latest technologies for their farms.
Thom is the recipient of the Distinguished Agrologist Award from the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists and was awarded the Certified Crop Advisor of the Year from the Prairie Certified Crop Advisor Board. He was among the initial group to pass the CCA exams in Canada.
